The Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards (ICBY) is asking Council for permission to finance and build a ~600 square meter, two-storey addition for ~$3.5 million as pictured in the inset. Insofar as I can ascertain, the building would be as-of-right - that is, wouldn't require planning approvals other than for a building permit and a heritage permit (with authority delegated to staff for the decision).

Surface Development is proposing changes to its approved building at 1946 that are significant enough to require a re-zoning. The building is now proposed to have simpler lines with a greater setback from the rear yard, and to put the majority of parking inside the building rather than at the surface. However, the terracing has been lost, and the developer is asking for reduced setbacks on the upper floors.

Work will be getting underway shortly at the corner of Wellington St West and Parkdale Ave to create a beautiful, usable public space for the community. The project is a collaboration between the Wellington West BIA, the Hintonburg Community Association, Ottawa Community Housing, the City of Ottawa and the Ontario Mainstreets Revitalization Initiative. The Hintonburg Community Association has been requesting a community bullentin board at this location for a number of years.

You may recall earlier this summer in June 2019, the Zoning approval was granted for the Ashcroft heritage convent development, which consists of converting the existing Sisters of the Visitation monastery into a mixed-use building with an addition to be used as an apartment building. The Site Plan Application for this development is now on circulation as well and can be further reviewed on DevApps. 

We received the following yesterday from the City.

Construction on the Harmer Avenue Pedestrian/Cycling Bridge Replacement is progressing very well. Construction started in 2018 and is scheduled for completion by summer 2020.

Our office is hosting a community meeting to discuss the future development at 27 O'Meara. The proposed development consists of four storeys and eight residential units. Each floor will contain two residential units, with six 2-bedroom units and two 1-bedroom units included within the building; two of which will be designed as accessible units. Every unit is designed as oversized for more interior storage and the basement level will provide communal storage space for the residents of the building.

Turning pavement to parkland in Kitchissippi Ward

Depave event happening October 5^th from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ottawa, September 27, 2019. Join the Kitchissippi community on Saturday October 5^th as they remove a city block of asphalt. This depaving project is partially done by hand as this creates a deep connection to the space and highlights the human impact on our environment.  It is believed to be Ottawa’s first street to be depaved.

Ottawa – The City is consulting the public on a proposal to rename Fairmont Park, located at 265 Fairmont Avenue (Ward 15 – Kitchissippi), Princess Margriet Park. 

In recognition of her historical significance to Ottawa, Mayor Jim Watson proposed renaming Fairmont Park after Princess Margriet of the Netherlands.
