Changes to City services to help prevent spread of COVID-19
On March 16, 2019, Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Ministry of Health, has now advised cancelling events or gatherings over 50 people because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also advised the following establishments should close temporarily (until further notice):
Please see the attached update that we received this afternoon from OC Transpo.
Mayor, Members of Council and Transit Commissioners
I am writing to inform you about the proactive steps we are taking throughout OC Transpo’s operations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and protect the safety of our operators and the customers who we serve.
Many of you have reached out in the past few days to let me know you'd be willing to volunteer in the ward. We don't know, yet, what those needs might be, but I'd like to now start capturing that interest in anticipation of future need. If you live in Kitchissippi ward and want to volunteer here, please fill out the form here. Thank you!
Good evening, Kitchissippi. Councillors have received some further guidance from Ottawa Public Health this afternoon to the effect that our public health officials are now asking everyone to please stay home as much as possible. Please, let's help slow the spread of Covid-19: stay home if you can.
As many likely read earlier this week, Council voted to issue a Notice of Default to RTG associated with the multiple LRT failures, with direction to the company to develop a plan by the end of the month to fix those.
Today, the City made public that Notice with a very long list of the problems we've experienced with the LRT and what we expect them to fix. The plan is due March 31.
Today at a Council/media briefing, the City announced some pretty significant steps in terms of closing public facilities to slow the spread of the coronavirus. I've copied the communication from the City below. They are also exploring cancelling many City committee and Council meetings. I'm waiting for a note from the City Clerk on which those will be, but we know that at least the Transit Commission scheduled for next week has been cancelled.
Hi Kitchissippi! Tonight I know many people are nervous about the Covid19 headlines. We've seen big event cancellations, confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ottawa including our Prime Minister's partner, and lots of news coverage. Getting accurate information about how we should react, and staying up to date with how our public health officials are protecting us, is important.
*Please note - we have decided to cancel this meeting, as we are having technological limitations in providing a productive experience. Shortly, we will host the development information online, and will be requesting your feedback.
