Rail grinding is set to begin even as soon as this weekend on the LRT line - one of the potential mitigations for the elevated noise levels being experienced by some Mechanicsville and Hintonburg residents. Please click on the attached .pdf attached notice for more details.

I had the opportunity this morning to press our city manager about the LRT noise in this location, and continue to be confident that the City is taking this issue seriously, including incorporating lessons learned into Stage 2.

The City has recently concluded its evaluation of a resident petition to allow dogs on-leash in Tillbury Park and has determined to implement the change. With a majority of residents who took part in the consultation on side, and after consideration of the multiple considerations involved, staff will make the change nearly immediately.

In June, I and my urban caucus colleagues (Councillors King, Fleury, McKenney and Menard) hosted a workshop at City Hall to look ahead at the new Official Plan. We heard lots about the kind of city you'd like to build, with heavy emphasis on sustainability and affordability. Take a look at the attached .pdf (click below) for more on what you told us.

As you may be aware, there is a Zoning By-Law Amendment and Official Plan application currently circulating for 951 Gladstone Ave and 145 Loretta Ave in the Civic Hospital / Hintonburg / Little Italy area. The application is to permit a mixed-used development with office, retail and residential uses in three high-rise towers. We hosted the first public open house in February; thank you to all those who attended and provided feedback.

In light of some recent devastating fires in the Hintonburg area, our office is hosting an After the Fire Program - Information Session together with Ottawa Fire Services The session is on Thursday, September 12 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Hintonburg Community Centre (Wellington Room). There will be information on fire safety, how to prevent a fire and what to do if you discover a fire. Please tell your friends and neighbours, and we look forward to seeing you there.

As Stage 2 LRT construction slowly begins, we have reassembled two working groups to address residents’ issues. Our office has also committed to publishing summaries of each meeting so the wider community is up to speed on the project as it continues.

Throughout the Stage 2 planning period the Workman/Dominion Working Group was very active and had a constructive role to play in planning the Dominion Station. Through the construction period, this group has been rebranded as the Scott Street Working Group, covering the area from Tunney’s Pasture to just west of Dominion Station.

A section of Highway 417 between Carling Avenue and Bronson Avenue is scheduled to be fully closed to traffic from August 10 at 6 p.m. to August 11 at 11 a.m.

You may recall that the City of Ottawa is undertaking a pathway improvement project at Fairmont Park. Attached below, you'll see the final concept design for the proposed new ashpalt pathways.

As many of you know, the City of Ottawa is currently working to revise the Municipal Trees and Natural Areas Protection By-law (2006-279) and the Urban Tree Conservation By-law (2009-200). In late June, City staff held consultation sessions with internal and external stakeholder working groups on a suite of proposed directions to improve the City's tree by-laws and associated implementation processes.
