Byron/Athlone/Highcroft Road Renewal Public Webinar - December 14

The City of Ottawa is planning a co-ordinated road. sewer, water main renewal project for Byron Avenue, Athlone Avenue and Highcroft Avenue. A flyer will be distribute to neighbouring residents which will include the information below. In addition to an online consultation, residents are invited to attend a Zoom Webinar where city staff and consultants will have a short presentation followed by a Q&A session.

Gladstone Station District Secondary Plan Study Area - Zoning By-law Amendment - D02-02-20-0106

 

 

 Site Location

The proposal zoning amendment applies to lands within the Gladstone Station District Secondary Plan area which are generally bounded by Somerset Street to the north, Highway 417 to the south, Breezehill Avenue and Loretta Avenue (south of Gladstone Avenue) to the west, and Preston Street (including properties facing Preston Street on its east side) and Booth Street (south of Balsam Street) to the east.

Manor Village and LRT: my Council vote

This week, I voted at Council in favour of an alignment for the future LRT line through the Woodroffe corridor to Barrhaven. If LRT moves ahead, that alignment would require the demolition of at least some of a development called Manor Village made up of largely affordable townhomes. This has been a headline item for several weeks, and residents have asked me why I supported this.

You may recall in 2019, we consulted with the community about 3 different development concept options for the heritage gas station at 70 Richmond Rd.  It's been a while, but Trinity is ready to move forward with an application for the site.

Vacant properties: HCA presentation to Council

To help distribute it, I've posted a video created by the Hintonburg Community Association and presented today to the budget meeting held at the Community and Protective Services committee of Council requesting a Vacancy tax to deal with the issue of properties left vacant for speculative development reasons.

Advisory Bike Lanes come to Byron Avenue

As part of our continuing efforts to calm traffic on Byron Avenue, you may have noticed some new pavement markings between Broadview Avenue and Wavell Avenue for cycling. 

These markings, a result of a local traffic study, are referred to as “Advisory Bike Lanes” and are different from traditional bike lanes.
