Dear Councillor Leiper and community association representatives,

The City of Ottawa has received a combined Zoning By-law Amendment and Site Plan Control application to facilitate the construction of a low-rise apartment building on Armstrong, and a detached dwelling on Carruthers.

1655 Carling Ave Development - Zoning By-Law Amendment re-submission

For those following the progress of the Zoning By-Law Amendment for 1655 Carling, please note that there has been a re-submission of the application which can be reviewed here on DevApps. The big change is that the building height has been reduced to 18 storeys based on discussions with staff and UDRP recommendations.


All-or-nothing intensification: the Highcroft case

At the end of May, City Council approved a big new expansion of the area in which the construction of new subdivisions can be built. It was a contentious debate. At the heart of it was the question of intensification: how much is too much? Are residents prepared to make compromises? Can even the new requirement that intensification account for half of growth between now and 2046 be achieved?


Queensway closure upcoming July 2-6

June 23, 2020 - A section of Highway 417 will fully close in both directions from 8 pm on Thursday, July 2 until 6 am on Monday, July 6, resulting in significant traffic impacts. On-ramps between Carling Avenue and Bronson Avenue will also close.

You may recall that an application resubmission has been made for the proposed development at 433 & 435 Churchill Ave, 468, 470, & 472 Byron Place. You can read more about the resubmission details here.

2070 Scott Street Development - Zoning By-Law Amendment and Site Plan Control Application Re-submission

For those following the progress of this development, the applicant has submitted new revised plans and studies. These can be viewed on HERE and are labelled with “2020-06-08”.

The applicant described the 2nd submission highlights as follows:


84-96 Hinton Avenue - Site Plan Control

An updated Site Plan Control application has been submitted to the City for 84-96 Hinton Ave. You can review the details on DevApps. The proposed development will be a mixed-use development with residential and commercial units. A four-storey low rose apartment building with a total of 24 residential units will be constructed on 84-86 Hinton Ave.
