Rockhurst Park (Mizrahi - 1445-1451 Wellington St W) Update - Final Design

You may recall, that as part of the future development at the Mizrahi site (1445-1451 Wellington St W), there will be a new urban park. In May 2016 we hosted community consultations for this new park, and staff have now prepared the final design.

Van Lang community dance

I'd like to give a big thanks to Donna, Rick and Christine who last night organized a community dance at the field house at Van Lang to celebrate school's-out! Thanks, Christine, for sending me some video of the event. I'm sorry I couldn't stay until the dancing got underway in earnest, but looks like a great time had by all!

1705 Carling proposal: new park proposal and traffic concerns

I want to thank the 50 or so people who came out to the open house on June 19 looking at the site plan application for a 9-storey seniors residence at 1705 Carling Avenue, currently the Webb’s Motel and Rose Bowl. The building is proposed to be a residential care facility and apartments for seniors with 130 and 68 units respectively.

It would have 45 parking spaces located underground, and 25 surface spaces. The residential care facility would have 38 of those spaces, the seniors apartments 27, and five spaces would be given over to visitor parking.

Carling Avenue Traffic Disruptions Coming Next Week

Motorists who use Carling Avenue in the western part of our ward should start thinking of alternative routes for next week.

Starting Monday, June 18, the Highway 417 eastbound off ramp at Carling and Kirkwood will close for about four weeks as work on the 417 widening project continues. Motorists will have exit on Maitland in order to access Carling.

Then one week later, intermittent lane closures will come to Carling between Woodroffe and Churchill to facilitate road resurfacing and other related work. That work is scheduled to begin June 25 and run until August 10.

Harmer Avenue bridge detour update

When the Harmer Avenue pedestrian/cycling bridge is under construction over the next two years, it will be unavailable as a crossing over the Queensway.

At the open house held in March, the City’s design team described its plan to put temporary cycling lanes on Holland between Kenilworth and Byron to help safely get riders through this corridor. Shortly after that open house, I distributed fliers to the most immediately affected residents on Holland to ensure they were aware of the plan.

Domicile/Roosevelt update

On May 22 at Planning Committee, members debated a proposal by Domicile for a six-storey, mixed-use building at 398, 402 and 406 Roosevelt Avenue. After hearing multiple delegations and significant debate, Committee members including myself voted to accept a compromise motion that would reduce the allowable building height to five storeys, with setbacks above the fourth storey.
