Housing starts were up in June this year compared to last (1,131 units in 2025 versus 840 in 2026), but overall housing starts in the first half of this year continue to lag. Through June 2025, 4,629 units were started and in the same period this year 4,120 were begun.
Of the units started in June this year, 141 were singles, 8 semis, 160 rows and 822 were apartments.
There were 15,646 units under construction in Ottawa in June, down only very slightly from 15,731 in May, and up from 15,139 in June 2025. Of the units under construction in June, 907 were singles, 205 semis, 1,332 rows and 13,202 apartments.
Year-over-year, June housing completions were down. In June 2026, 1,217 units were completed compared to 1,338 in June 2025 and 1,411 in the same month in 2024. Of the units completed in June 2026, 123 were singles, 10 semis, 207 rows and 877 apartments.
Housing completions through the first six months of the year, though, are back into the normal range through the past several years. From January to June 2026, 4,362 units were completed versus 3,688 in 2025, 4,209 in 2024, and 4,107 in 2023.
