My office has fielded a number of questions about the new park at Spencer/Huron and I’m happy to say we now have a shareable version of the final design, which I’ve posted below.
I’m also cognizant that I haven’t broadly shared my preference for a park name. My thanks go to everyone who made a suggestion. In the end, I’ve asked the City to consider “Papichī Park” that uses the Algonquin word for “robin”. We had a number of bird/nature-related suggestions and my preference whenever we have the opportunity for a re-naming is to use Indigenous language whenever possible. I’ve spoken informally with elders at Kitigan Zibi to seek their suggestions and permission before proceeding, but there is a further process to follow between the City and our host nation before that can be finalized.
As residents have seen ground has broken on the park and we expect it to open next summer.
