Carling Avenue - from Melrose Avenue to Merivale Road and Sherbourne Road - from Knightsbridge Road to Byron Avenue
Contract No. CP000271
CONSTRUCTION NOTICE
October 2018
Dear Resident,
In late October, the City of Ottawa will begin construction works in your neighbourhood. This work is being conducted to increase design life of watermain pipes in your community.
Who: The Contractor, Clean Water Works, will be performing the construction work for the City of Ottawa.
Why: In order to increase longevity of existing infrastructure, the City of Ottawa will be proceeding with the installation of anodes along watermain pipes to reduce corrosion.
What: Cathodic protection of watermains will be done by installing anodes at a specified interval. Work will involve removal of existing asphalt roadway and excavation to expose the top of watermain pipe. Excavation works will require the use of a Hydro excavator (Vacuum truck), to reduce the risk of damaging existing underground utilities. Reinstatements will follow once anodes have been welded to the pipe. Please note this is a mobile operation. During the construction, there may be temporary lane reductions during off peak hours and parking restrictions in the vicinity of the work to take place.
When: This work is planned to begin in late October. Completion is anticipated by end of November.

Accessibility
Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the Contractor’s Representative or the City’s Project Manager noted below.
Construction Disruptions
The Contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but, as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as traffic delays, parking restrictions, and noise. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation.
Impact on the Right-of-Way and Adjacent Private Properties
The reconstruction is within the City’s right-of-way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. Lawns, pathways, gardens and/or driveways may be disturbed. The affected areas will be reinstated as soon as possible after construction is completed, at no cost to you. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right-of-way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you may want to move the plants in preparation for the construction work.
