THE RIDE - a cycling fundraiser for cancer research

You are here

On the morning of Sunday, September 13, Kitchissippi Ward will be filled with hundreds of cyclists making their way to Tunney’s Pasture for THE RIDE – a fundraising/cycling event supporting cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital.

Now in its sixth year, THE RIDE has raised an impressive $8.8 million for cancer research taking place in our city. That’s something we can all be proud of.

Something else that we should be sharing is the incredible announcement in early July about a world-first clinical trial developed in Ottawa and through which scientists are using a cancer-killing virus to treat patients. This is revolutionary. Imagine the potential such a treatment would have on cancer patients in our ward, city, country and around the world!

I recognize there are many causes out there that need community support; however cancer will have an effect on each and every one of us, and supporting research is a way we can all get involved. So I encourage to you to take part: ride and fundraise, volunteer, or come out to cheer on the cyclists as they return from their 50k or 108k ride.

We’re all in this together.
