Part-time office position

Councillor Jeff Leiper, Kitchissippi Ward 15, is currently seeking a new staff member to join his office, beginning in late July or early August. This is a part-time position; Monday to Friday, four hours a day, totaling twenty hours a week. Compensation will be $22 an hour. This position will be remote until such time as we are able to return to the office, which is located at City Hall (110 Laurier Avenue West).  

The ideal fit for this position is a curious, compassionate individual who is interested in helping others and thrives in a team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting residents with issues related to housing, social services, and human needs, so an empathetic disposition is important, but no experience in these fields is needed. An interest in or some experience doing communications work is an asset. Bilingualism is also an asset but not mandatory.   

Duties Include:   

  • Respond to calls and emails sent to the office, triaging correspondence to the appropriate team member   

  • Assist residents who are facing issues related housing, social services, and human needs  

  • Update and monitor ward social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter)   

  • Attend and provide support at open office hours   

  • Write letters of support for community groups seeking grant funding for projects  

  • Write monthly column for the local newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times   

  • General casework, responding to questions from residents and connecting them with the appropriate services 

  • Other duties as needed   

Ideal candidate will have:   

  • An interest in or minor experience doing communications and social media work   

  • Ability to multi-task and address competing priorities  

  • Extensive experience working in customer-facing positions  

  • Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to resolve issues  

  • A strong desire to help others and support community growth

  • Be fully bilingual
