Back to School Construction Update

You are here

As students head back to school Tuesday, a key intersection many use on their way to school remains under construction. The Island Park Drive road rehabilitation (from Carling to Byron) has the sidewalks cordoned off at Byron Avenue.

It looks as if good progress is being made and city staff tell us the actual work will continue during non-peak hours in an attempt to affect as few people as possible. The project is expected, weather permitting, to be finished by the second or third week of September.

We're hoping the intersection itself is finished before that and to that end, have asked for the work to continue all night to speed up the process. We've also asked for a police officer to assist the crossing guard until the intersection is fully operational.

We wish you all a very successful and safe first day of school!
