Westfest goes solar and green.

You are here

As if Westfest could get any cooler, founder and producer Elaina Martin has announced that its stages will be powered 100% by solar energy. In a press release distributed yesterday, Westfest announced that it's working with Solar On Site to go green.

In the release, Elaina says: "Going completely green has always been a dream of Westfest and, of course, a great challenge being a free festival. That's why this year, with enhanced Recycle Zones on the street, water bottle refill stations, and by using 100 per cent solar power for all three of our outdoor stages, Westfest comes that much closer to making that dream of green a reality."

The tech is impressive. The same release notes: "The Solar On Site system is a deployable, off-grid, mobile generator that is highly efficient and uses the company's patented solar tracking technology which optimizes to yield to the most sunlight possible, regardless of clouds or trailer direction. The units also contain several hours of stored solar energy that can be used as a reserve system. This means Solar On Site can provide power day or night, rain or shine, as they can keep the batteries at near 100 per cent throughout an all-day event."

Westfest happens June 13 and 14. Details are at westfest.ca - see you there!
