Tunney's Pasture heating/cooling building

You are here

I want to thank residents who have asked about a new heating plant to be built on the Tunney's Pasture campus.

It turns out that recently the feds announced an initiative to modernize its five central heating and cooling plants. This includes the one at Tunney's where a new plant will be built on Colombine between Banting and Goldenrod, and that will see the existing plant decommissioned. PCL was chosen to do the work, which will proceed on a P3 basis. You can read more about that here on the PCL website or here in an iPolitics article. This continues to leave space for the large park that's part of the Tunney's Pasture Master Plan, work on which continues. While I had an expectation that there might begin to be consultations on the Tunney's re-development this year, that now seems unlikely. When consultations do open, I will be sure to include those details in a future newsletter and blog.

Minister McKenna's office has passed on that construction is underway, and is expected to be completed by October 31, 2025. Below you'll find a .pdf with two renderings of the plant. I'm very pleased to see the green roof.
