Snow update - February 21, 4pm

You are here

Here's the latest from our snow ops folks. (It's messy on the roads, but it was a delightful afternoon for the walk to Hampton Park to serve some chili. Thanks to Margaret Hillier, Jen Stelzer and Lorne Cutler and the whole Hampton-Iona Community Group for the invite!)

***

Light snow started early this morning and has intensified through late morning and early afternoon. We anticipate snow to lighten up through the evening and overnight ending mid Sunday morning as flurries. Presently we have a range of accumulation across the City, 5-7 cm range of accumulation in the South and West areas to + 10 cm in the Core and East parts of the City, with the snow light and fluffy in nature. Day staff have been working on priority roads/sidewalks and range from wet, slushy and snow covered. Night shift staff will be in for 7pm to continue plowing the priority road and sidewalk network. We have scheduled a residential plow run for 4am, we cannot institute the overnight parking ban as Environment Canada has not called for more than 7 cm. We will also be plowing residential sidewalks, cleaning up bus stops, activated signals, dead ends through the overnight and tomorrow for the morning commute on Monday. Presently winds light, temperatures are -11 Celsius and wind chill – 18 Celsius.
