Rosemount Library update

You are here

I’m very pleased to say that this morning Council approved a list of applications to be made to a new federal infrastructure fund, including a request to help fund an expansion of Rosemount Library.

The approval follows on the heels of last night’s ok at a special meeting by the Library Board of the application. If we’re successful at winning the federal funds, the Library has now committed to match up to $1 million to renovate the Rosemount branch.

A full report on the Library’s plans if successful is available online at http://app05.ottawa.ca/sirepub/agdocs.aspx?doctype=agenda&itemid=333214. The work could include items such as a small expansion of space on the ground level, enhanced front facade, washroom upgrades and the removal of sorting operations from the current program/meeting room, and more.

By all accounts, we’ll know soon which projects have won funding or not as the feds fast-track decision-making.

The Rosemount branch has been a hot topic of late, and I’ve been working, along with Library chair Tim Tierney and CEO Danielle MacDonald with the READ group chaired by Richard van Loon on a number of options to move forward. My thanks to them and to Library staff for their work over the past several weeks, including some very late nights in recent days.

Fingers crossed, as they say.
