#ottmusic this weekend

You are here

It’s a busy #ottmusic weekend with multiple festivals featuring local music and more!

Ottawa Explosion Weekend has been going on since Wednesday and continues through the weekend. I’m hoping to catch local band DOXX at the Dominion Tavern at 10 PM tonight (Friday). While I have every good intention of catching Ottawa punk mainstay Steve Adamyk Band, it will be up to Hypnos as to whether that happens. Steve and band play at the Dominion on Saturday night at the Dominion Tavern at 1:15 am. There are a ton of local bands to catch at Explosion: see the full line-up here. Emma Kenny at Girls Rock Ottawa has posted her can’t-miss list here.

Glowfair is also on this weekend, June 14-16 and I’m hoping to take some of it in. tonight, ISKWÉ plays the main stage at 9:45. From Hamilton, she’s been named by CBC Music as one of the “Top 10 Canadian musicians you need to know.” Local band Mosely plays the main stage on the heels of releasing “Echose” – their fourth; they take the stage at 8 pm on Saturday night.

The Festival Franco-Ontarien continues tonight and Saturday night at Major’s Hill Park with lots of music. Tonight the lineup will include Ottawa’s Rebecca Noelle in an all-star francophone, mostly female lineup sharing the bill with Les Porn Flakes. Check it out here. Tomorrow the evening features a night electronic and hip-hop programming.

Tomorrow night at the Blacksheep Inn, local band Harea team up with Toronto’s KC Roberts & The Live Revolution. Get all the details on the FB event page here.

For a change of pace, The Record Centre has some great acts this weekend – find them here. René Lavoie (who has taught my son for years on sax) plays with Troika Latin Jazz tomorrow, 2-3 pm at the store. I’m hoping to catch some that, for sure!

Want more music this weekend? Check out apt613.ca’s round-up here, and there’s a huge events listing as always at Ottawa Beat here. Help support local music and festivals!
