6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Presentation at 7:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.

Fisher Park Summit Alternative School – Library (2nd floor)

250 Holland Avenue, Ottawa

Dear Resident,

The City of Ottawa invites you to attend a Public Information Session to discuss the Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Replacement project in your neighborhood. This meeting will allow residents an opportunity to review the design features of the project. Representatives from the City, the design consultant and Ward Councillor Jeff Leiper will be available to discuss the project and to answer your questions.

Who:           Design consulting firm, Stantec, has been retained by the City to develop a design for the proposed Harmer Avenue Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge.

What:          The existing Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge has reached its lifespan. It will be demolished in June of 2018. As part of the City’s infrastructure renewal, the proposed Harmer Avenue Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge will be constructed with a main span truss over the Queensway, the north and south ramps, and the corresponding stairs. The main span truss will be enclosed with glass panels and a roof. The bridge, the ramps and stairs will have pathway lighting. There will be a pedestrian and cycling detour implemented on Holland Avenue to assist residents through out the construction phase.

Why:           The existing Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge is at the end of its life cycle and is in need of replacement. The proposed bridge will continue to connect the neighborhoods of Wellington West Village and the Ottawa Civic Hospital area. The proposed bridge is part of the active living transportation network and a main spine in the City of Ottawa Master Cycling plan.

When:         The current project schedule is as follows:

  • Construction start: Spring 2018
  • Bridge demolition: June 2018
  • Main span truss installation: Fall 2018
  • Construction completion: Summer of 2020

Where:       The proposed bridge alignment will span the Queensway/417 and will be located slightly to the east of the existing bridge. Its ramps and stairs will be located in the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) lands adjacent to the Queensway, as they exist today.

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. There is an accessible entrance to the school on Harmer Avenue North. An elevator and ramps just inside of this door lead to the second floor library. If you require special accommodation at the public open house, please contact the undersigned.
