Edits sought - Kitchissippi COA primer

You are here

Last night, I spent a while on the phone with a Kitchissippi resident who has heard that the neighbouring property is likely to be torn down, and a larger home built if approved by the Committee of Adjustment. It's a conversation I have a few times a month. We're seeing a march of infill development in the ward that's replacing the existing housing stock, and people have lots of questions.

The main regulator for infill is the Committee of Adjustment. For many residents who see a sign go up on a property, or hear a neighbourhood rumour, a new infill is often the first time they'll come across the Committee. What is it? How does it work? What does it regulate? How can residents engage with it?

To help, I've put together a quick primer that should serve as a basic introduction to the Committee when people call. I'll put it on the web site, and my staff will distribute it as a first information piece to help save everyone time.

I'm not, by any means, an expert in the Committee of Adjustment. Here, I've just tried to cover off a list of common FAQs.

This is a draft. Do you have ideas for improvement, or edits you can suggest for clarity? Before I finalize this, I'd like to leave it out there for a few weeks for suggestions. Feel free to download it here or by clicking on the attachment below, and email me back a track-changes version. Thanks in advance for any help you might provide! When it's done, we'll have it translated.
