Community Info Session: John Howard Society - 55-59 Carruthers

A community Information Session regarding the proposed John Howard Society development at 55-59 Carruthers

On April 29, 2015, Council approved the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) capital plan that aligns with the City’s 10 Year Housing and Homelessness Plan.  The three priorities for new developments that were approved as part of the report are as follows:

·        Affordable Rental Housing for Seniors;

·        Supportive Housing; and

·        Mixed Composition Housing

In 2015, the Housing Services Branch (HSB) released two Request for Proposals (RFP). The first was for the seniors’ priority.  The successful proposal was Ottawa Community Housing Corporation for a seniors building located at 900 Merivale Road, that will be integrated with an expanded Carlington Community and Health Centre.

The second Request for Proposals (RFP) was to develop supportive housing. John Howard Society was the successful proponent with the property at 55-59 Carruthers Avenue.  The development is a 5 storey, 36 unit residential building.

Please join us at a community information session to discuss this development. Councillor Leiper, City staff, representatives from John Howard Society and the design team will be on hand to provide all the necessary information and address your questions and concerns. Light refreshments will be provided.

Additional information on this development can be found here.
