Beginner Shore Fishing Clinic

You are here

On June 29 we were pleased to host a Beginner Shore Fishing Clinic at Remic Rapids Park to celebrate Family Fishing Week in Ontario and encourage residents to get outside and engage with the Kichesippi (Ottawa River) in meaningful ways. We were thrilled with the turnout – we stopped counting attendees around 75 – and how enthusiastic everyone was about fishing, seasoned anglers and absolute beginners alike

Unfortunately, we were so excited to get fishing we weren’t able to give any opening remarks, and we had to wrap up so quickly due to weather we didn’t get the chance to publicly thank all our event partners and volunteers. We’d like to do so now.

Thank you to the National Capital Commission for providing the facilities for this event, and so for sending Conservation Officer Jason Pink to help everyone with fishing tips and knowledge.

Thank you to Friends in Sportfishing for bringing loads of fishing rods, reels, gear, and knowledgeable volunteers.

Thank you to Ottawa Riverkeeper for bringing fun and informative materials and having a professional photographer circulate to take pictures of the event – see those here.

Thank you to Rideau Valley Conservation Authority for providing their City Stream Watch demonstration, full of awesome creepy crawlies that can indicate the health of our waterways, plus drinks and snacks!

Thank you to the City of Ottawa Waterfront Operations team for sending out lifeguards with all their gear and first aid kits to help us keep the event fun and safe.

Thank you to Ottawa River Rafting for providing lifejackets and fun river excursions for our participants.

Thank you to Dovercourt for providing life jackets for youth and children to ensure everyone could play safe around the water.

Thank you to Blue Fish Canada for handing out individual shore clean up kits and promoting environmentally-friendly fishing practices.

Finally, thank you so much to all our wonderful volunteers who brought gear and shared their time and knowledge with our new anglers

Without the help of all these wonderful individuals and organizations, this event would not have been possible; the success of the Clinic is testament to the strength of our community. Thank you all so much for helping us create this fun, free, family friendly event, and a special thank-you to everyone who came out to fish! We look forward to doing something similar next year.
