Road closures on May 24 for Race Weekend
Multiple streets will be closed in our ward for the Race Weekend marathon and half-marathon. Over 19,000 participants will wheel, run and walk through the 'hood on Sunday, May 24, with some pretty significant road closures. Hope everyone gets out to cheer! Closure details at http://kitchissippiward.ca/content/road-closures-race-weekend.

Crossing guard at Rosemount/Wellington
Construction by Tamarack/Doran at the site of the former Bethany Hope Centre have made an ordinarily wonky crossing even more uncomfortable lately. My thanks go to Taggart for agreeing to pay the cost of a crossing guard for the remainder of this school year. I've heard from many of you how much you appreciate the new measure. I will be seeking similar commitments from builders at any new major projects that have an impact on school crossings moving forward. It's uncertain whether we can find the funding to continue the guard next school year given tight fiscal
constraints, but I'll be spending the summer working on it.
Ev Tremblay re-seeded
My thanks also go out to Ashcroft for its repsonsiveness to my request to repair the damage caused by its sub-contractors' parking on City land. Affected areas were recently hydro-seeded and fenced off to allow the new grass to grow, and some further clean-ups were accomplished in addition.
Holland/Parkdale corridor sharrow study
The City has been focusing new attention on the Parkdale/Holland corridor of Wellington West with an eye to improving safety for cyclists. In the latter half of May, Carleton students will be filming current behaviour with respect to cyclists taking the lane or not, and driver behaviour. In late spring, new sharrows will be painted in place, along with other pavement markings to encourage cyclists to get out of the "dooring" zone, and for car drivers to share the road. Pavement markings will encourage cyclists to stay one meter away from car doors with a new
dashed line. And "cycling priority" signs will be affixed to posts. When those are in place, Carleton will film anew to assess what changes result. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
