A long-awaited decison (kind of) in the appeal by Mizrahi seeking to overturn the City’s decision against its 12-storey building at Island Park and Richmond Road is finally out. It’s good news – sort of.
The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) has rejected the developer’s appeal in a lengthy decision, but on the basis that Mizrahi hasn’t designed such a “landmark” building that it would qualify for extra height.

One of the major construction projects this summer in our ward will be the re-alignment of the westbound off-ramp from the 417 at the Parkdale intersection and rehabilitation of the bridge. It will mean the ramp will be closed for around two months with traffic expected to use a variety of diversions including the Kirkwood/Island Park and Bronson exits.

This week, I attended two events launching research reports exploring the challenges faced by our vulnerable populations. On Tuesday night, I visited St. Matthias in Kitchissippi where a group of Carleton students partnered with the parish to explore the social needs gaps in the church’s catchment area (including much of our ward). Then, on Thursday, I attended a briefing held by the Alliance to End Homelessness (ATEH) to explore the results of its recent street survey of Ottawa’s homeless.
As many of you have noticed, selected trees along the Byron Linear Park have been marked with red x’s. These trees are slated for removal and that should be happening shortly, if it’s not already underway.
The big question that we’ve been getting is, of course, “when will they be replanted?!”
Good news! We’ve received word that replanting is expected to take place this upcoming fall. We appreciate your patience and understanding while our Forestry department takes on this mammoth task across Ottawa.

On March 6, the City of Ottawa and National Capital Commission announced that the 100-day Working Group had achieved a compromise that ensures a route for western light rail through the sensitive Dominion-Cleary corridor.
On November 21, supported by myself and many in the community, the NCC challenged the City to develop a plan for using the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway that wouldn’t have adverse access and visual impacts. They sought a solution that would preserve greenspace and trees.

Parking in the Westboro Village retail area has been a persistent issue for years – and more recently, it seems to be growing along Wellington West as well. Businesses are concerned that they’re losing customers to suburban malls that offer easy car access, and even some residents find that parking is scarce when they need or want to drive to a local merchant.
When there’s parking pressure, cars begin circling the block for in order to find a spot. This creates traffic congestion and wasted time, increased air pollution and decreased pedestrian and cyclist safety.
