There are indications that two new cannabis retailers are or will be seeking permission to operate in the ward.
At 1200B Wellington West, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has opened a comment period for an application by Spiritleaf to operate from the storefront vacated when the cake shop consolidated into a smaller space.
As residents, developers, the City and Council grapple with crafting a brand new Official Plan, I'm very pleased to spread word of a new speaker series initiative. Architect Rosaline Hill has been working on developing an independent perspective on how mature neighbourhoods might intensify while still preserving what we love about our communities.
I want to thank the 100 or so people who came out Thursday night to the City's open house looking ahead to the sewer work to be done on Scott Street this year. I've received the materials now for posting. The City still has some work to do to make these accessible and bilingual, and then they'll be posted along with any updates to the project page here.
Ottawa’s population is growing. Recently, we crossed over the one million population threshold on the Ontario side, and we are assuming for the purpose of developing our new Official Plan that we will grow to 1.4 million by 2046. That’s coming up fast. My son will be a little younger than I am today in 2046, maybe with kids of his own ready to move out. If you have young children today, many of them will have just left school and will be establishing new households and families. It’s really not that far off.
This morning, the CBC took a look at the possible closure of Dulude arena and others. Tom Brown in our ward is also on a list of possible rink closures in the urban area. It’s heartbreaking, and I’d like to take a moment to make it clear why, if Council chooses to go down this path, the decision would likely have implications that will be felt for decades.
Hydro One will be doing some vegetation maintenance in their corridor that runs north/south through Kitchissippi Ward between Tweedsmuir and Kirkwood, from the Queensway to just past Scott Street. They will be holding a drop-in session at the Dovercourt Recreation Centre on Tuesday, February 11, from 5:30 to 7. We've attached the flyer that was distributed to neighbouring residents. In the next few weeks or months, Ashcroft will likely move ahead with a re-zoning application for the final phase of its convent development near Hilson/Bryon. With that application we as a community will need to deal with the question of how traffic will enter and egress the site. It’s been a topic of discussion for a long time and a question fraught with controversy, and I’m writing to outline how I view it today in response to the growing number of inquiries I've been getting.
