Some current and upcoming road closures

You don't have to look far in Kitchissippi Ward to see that construction season is in full force. Here is one current and two upcoming road closures to keep in mind as you make your way around the ward.

Earlier this week, Redwood was closed from Byron to Dovercourt. Here is the flyer sent to local residents:

 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTION

In accordance with The Road Activity By-law 2003-445, permission is hereby granted for you to close the following roadway: 

On: Redwood Ave                     From: Byron Ave       To:  Dovercourt Ave

Under the following conditions:
Duration:
  • Redwood Ave from:    Monday, 30 July 2018 to Tuesday, 18 September

Signage/Conditions:

  • Redwood Ave may be closed Monday, 30 July 2018 – Tuesday, 18 September, 2018
  • Contact the City's Bylaws, Permits and Inspections Unit (Nancy Jean-Louis:  613-580-2424 ext. 13637) if the date of closure changes from that stated on the application.
  • Notify affected residents/businesses, in writing, a minimum of 72 hours prior to the closure. The notification must include a description of any temporary changes to local access and/or parking.
  • Maintain pedestrian access and provide pedestrian detours if necessary.
  • Maintain access to adjacent dwellings and businesses at all times.  This includes emergency vehicle access. 
  • Contractor is to install the attached closure/detour plan.
  • At any time during the work, the City Traffic Management Inspector, at his/her discretion may require the contractor to supply and install additional traffic control devices (signs, barrels etc) and/or retain point duty police to control traffic.  The contractor is responsible for all costs.

 

Merivale Road will be closed for a couple nights later this week from Carling Avenue to Island Park Drive. Here's the notice sent to nearby residents:

  2. Thursday,  2 August, 2018  (8PM – 4AM)

Signage/Conditions:

  • Merivale Road from Carling Ave EB to Island Park Drive may be closed Wednesday, 1 August (8:00pm – 4:00am),  Thursday, 2 August (8:00pm – 4:00am)
  •  Contact the City's Bylaws, Permits and Inspections Unit (Nancy Jean-Louis:  613-580-2424 ext. 13637) if the date of closure changes from that stated on the application.
  • Notify affected residents/businesses, in writing, a minimum of 72 hours prior to the closure. The notification must include a description of any temporary changes to local access and/or parking.

And last but not least, Kirkwood Avenue will be closed between Byron and Clare on August 18 and 19 for the installation of a pedestrian crossing at Kirkwood and Iona and the reinstatement of speed bumps in the proximity of that intersection. This work is being done as the Iona rebuild work nears completion. Here's the notice sent to local residents:

 

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Kirkwood Avenue between Byron Avenue and Clare Street

Iona Street, Broadhead Avenue and Helena Street Reconstruction

Contract No. ISD16-5028

August 2018

 

Dear Resident,

Construction work for the Iona Street, Broadhead Avenue and Helena Street Reconstruction is currently underway. In order to facilitate the construction, the City of Ottawa has approved a temporary road closure of Kirkwood Avenue.

Who:       The Contractor, Louis W. Bray Construction Ltd., is responsible for the road closure.

Why:       The road closure is required in order to complete the ongoing construction, and for safety of the workers and public.

What:      Kirkwood Avenue will be closed to traffic between Byron Avenue and Clare Street.

When:    Kirkwood Avenue will be closed between Byron Avenue and Clare Street beginning at 7 am on Saturday, August 18 until 6 pm on Sunday, August 19.

Where:   Kirkwood Avenue between Byron Avenue and Clare Street.

Detours

Signed detours for vehicles will be provided along Kirkwood-Byron-Churchill-Clare-Kirkwood. Access to properties located within the closed portion of Kirkwood will be maintained north and south of Iona Street, but a hard closure will be located at the Iona Street and Kirkwood Avenue intersection.

OC Transpo routes 16 and 81 will be rerouted:

  • Route 16 will be removed from Clare and Kirkwood and operate along Churchill – Byron – Kirkwood (north of Byron);
  • Route 81 will be removed from Kirkwood and operate along Kirkwood – Clare – Churchill – Byron – Kirkwood (north of Byron).

Accessibility

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City. If you require special accommodations, please contact the undersigned. Provisions in the contract have been made in order to ensure Para Transpo vehicles are able to access the apartment buildings within the limits of this project.
