Scott Street sewer work presentations

You are here

I want to thank the 100 or so people who came out Thursday night to the City's open house looking ahead to the sewer work to be done on Scott Street this year. I've received the materials now for posting. The City still has some work to do to make these accessible and bilingual, and then they'll be posted along with any updates to the project page here. The City will be accepting comments and feedback through March 5 by emailing the project lead, Please consider copying me on any email at

The materials are relatively comprehensive, but it's a lot. There's a few key considerations that residents should most be aware of. First, there will be significant detours for cars and buses; see the presentation for details. Because traffic is anticipated to be much heavier on Richmond and Wellington, those will be temporarily re-configured with some bump-outs removed then reinstated after the project to handle two eastbound lanes of traffic with significant parking restrictions to minimize transit delays and hopefully keep traffic on the main street and out of the neighbourhoods. The multi-use path on the north side of Scott between Island Park Drive and Smirle will be widened to 4m to accommodate additional pedestrian and cycling traffic. Finally, the street is proposed to be re-instated with a grade-separated cycling track on the south side.

Staff are in the process of developing a full traffic control plan for the project to mitigate the impact on local residential streets, and details of that will evolve in the coming weeks. I'll be engaged with City staff frequently through the planning for this project, and I look forward to your feedback.
