Scott Street construction update

You are here

Construction on Scott Street to prepare the section from the Parkway (with a temporary connecting bus road to Churchill) to Tunney's for the bus detour continues to be the focus of much of my office's attention. Pedestrian and cyclist accessibility has been an ongoing issue in a tight and complicated space. I'd like to thank the Mayor and City Manager's offices for working with me to emphasize with the contractor the need to maintain safe passage.

Below, please find an update on the construction schedule that I hope is a realistic one in the wake of multiple assertions of completion dates that have not been met. From my reading of it, the north side MUP widening is now expected to take place in 2022. When that work proceeds, the MUP is expected to be largely open, but there may be a full closure of it for a few days. I will continue to work with the City to ensure that appropriate detours are in place for that - it will not be acceptable to me to ask cyclists to use Scott Street on unsegregated infrastructure.

For a few months Tom in my office has been doing a daily walk-through of the site and the City is also visiting the site frequently to look for accessibility issues. These continue to crop up too frequently, although we've seen some progress.
