Road closures upcoming

You are here

From time to time, I'll post a round-up of upcoming housekeeping items: road closures, street work, etc. If you have any questions about any of these, don't hesitate to drop me a line or give me a call.

Ash tree removal – Hampton Park

The National Capital Commission (NCC) has advised that it will be removing around 370 ash trees assessed as a hazard for pedestrians and motorists in Hampton Park. Crews will begin removing the trees between January 27 and February 3, with work taking place from 7 am – 5 pm.

The off-leash dog area won’t be affected. Park users will experience temporary path closures. Except for the dog run, dogs should be kept on leash at all times.

There may also be temporary lane closures on Island Park near Merivale between 9 am and 3 pm. After removal and stump-clearing, the Commission will begin reforestation.

Young Street closure - January 26-30

The City has advised us that Young Street from Champagne to Railway will be closed to all but local traffic from Monday January 26 to Friday January 30. Emergency and residential access will be maintained. I have spoken with the contractor; sidewalks on Young will be open, and Railway is unaffected. The closure is required to connect new services at 42 Young Street.

Westminster Avenue closure – January 27

The City has advised us that Westminster from Byron to Crossfield will be closed for one day while a tree is removed from 517 Westminster. Local and emergency access will be maintained. I have spoken with the resident – the tree in question is an ash in the backyard that currently poses a hazard to power lines.

Winterman-related SJAM closures – February 15

The annual Winterman races will close the westbound lanes on the Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway on February 15 any time from 6 am to 2 pm. Thinking of running or coming out to cheer? Visit http://www.somersault.ca/eventwinterman.htm for more info.
