The Mayor's City Builder Award is a civic honour created to recognize an individual, group or organization that has, through outstanding volunterrism or exemplary action, demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to making our city a better place today and for the future. And seventeen-year-old Jonathan Chow is a wonderful person who is accomplishing so much with his inspiring charitable work and exemplary achievements, and serves as an inspiration to all. Trust me, this is one impressive teenager!

Jonathan is only seventeen-years-old, in grade 12 at Ashbury College. He is interested in the biology sub-field of dedifferentiation and enjoys computer programming. He is on SMART, a robotics team, as well as track and field and cross country running teams. In addition, John is part of the debate and speech, model UN, world affairs and investment clubs.

Jonathan has several different projects on the go. They include:

QZZR: An online tool for rapid audience polling.

Charitable Wishlist: An online resrouce that connecting donors, volunteers and charities. The website shows what charities are looking for, and how to help them.

Problocks: Another online application that teaches youth the logic behind computer programming.(Coming soon!)

Jonathan also participates in a few community service projects, which include:

Cardiac research: He is currently completing research in two labs at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Has begun to study dedifferentiation and will learn more about the subject. He is also working in the cardiac imaging lab analyzing images.

Mentoring Robotics: Jonathan has been volunteering as a mention for the younger student’s robotics team, teaching the students about science, technology, and how they can be applied to create robots that accomplish specialized functions.
