Dogs to be allowed on-leash in Tillbury Park

The City has recently concluded its evaluation of a resident petition to allow dogs on-leash in Tillbury Park and has determined to implement the change. With a majority of residents who took part in the consultation on side, and after consideration of the multiple considerations involved, staff will make the change nearly immediately.

These are never easy or uncontentious decisions, but I've satisfied myself that staff have followed the process set out for them by Council. I have also let our staff know that if we begin to see a pattern of serious new problems, I'll go to Council to ask that the designation be changed back. However, at the outset I'm making generous assumptions, including that dog owners will be respectful of other park users by keeping them away from play structures, not allowing them off-leash, and cleaning up. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new arrangement works in the coming year.
