Closed doors contain fire on Tillbury Ave

You are here

Fire crews were called to a home on Tillbury Avenue this morning. Two vehicles in the garage were damaged, but luckily everyone got out safely. Firefighters were able to quickly get the blaze under control, thanks in large part to the fact the garage doors remained closed. This allowed crews to keep the fire from spreading past the garage into the home.

Given this morning's incident, Ottawa Fire Services would like to remind residents:

  • If you suspect there is a fire in your garage leave all the doors closed to prevent fire spread.  Fire grows when given additional oxygen.  Close all doors on your way out.
  • Do not return inside a fire to try to extinguish the fire or to retrieve people, personal items or pets. Evacuate to a safe area at a safe distance from the emergency.
  • Call 9-1-1 as soon as it is safe to do so.  Remember, you are our eyes and ears to the emergency.  Our Dispatch staff will ask questions to help best locate the caller and assess the conditions surrounding the emergency.  We encourage you to remain calm, answer the Dispatcher’s questions and to stay on the line until advised to hang up.

This morning's fire was under control 21 minutes after fire crews got the call and residents were cleared to return to the home shortly after.
