Byron Farmer's Market Zoning Amendment

You are here

It was recently brought to our attention by City staff that a Zoning By-Law Amendment is required for the Byron Farmer’s Market.

The Byron Farmers’ Market has been in operation for five years, however it has come to the attention of the Planning Services that a zoning by-law amendment is needed to permit the operation of a farmers’ market at this location.  The subject lands are currently zoned O1- Open Space.  It is proposed to rezone the lands to add an exception to permit a farmers’ market.  The market will operate on Saturdays between May and October, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The target date the proposed amendment will be considered by the City’s Planning Committee is March 28, 2017. The target date the proposed amendment will be considered by the City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee is April 6, 2017.  Comments on the proposal are due January 31, 2017.

The Market has been in operation for several years now, and has generally been to the benefit of ward residents. With this re-zoning, there may be an opportunity, however, to address some of the concerns residents have expressed. Please submit your feedback to the file lead Carol Ruddy, at carol.ruddy@ottawa.ca and to our office via jeff.leiper@ottawa.ca or by calling 613-580-2485.

Thank you and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
