Queensway on-ramp closure study

As I noted in my newsletter last weekend, the Province is kicking off a study of closing the Carling Avenue on-ramp just west of Westgate shopping centre - the short ramp that allows traffic westbound on Carling to join the eastbound Queensway by looping around the mall.

I'm very concerned that this would have the potential to put more traffic on Parkdale, particularly if the Westgate re-development proposed by RioCan is approved.

417 Road Widening: Letter to Ministers

Yesterday, Councillors Wilkinson, McKenney and I wrote to the Ontario government suggesting re-purposing funds proposed to be spent on 417 road-widening. One compelling alternative would be to use the funds to extend LRT to Kanata on an acclerated basis. Take a look at the letter here.

Help on a hot Race Weekend!

Good afternoon, Kitchissippi!

As I think most everyone knows, the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is this weekend, and it's forecast to be a hot one! If the heat goes up to what they're expecting, it could be uncomfortable for some of the participants. The race organizers have asked us to pass on the message below asking for your help with sprinklers and hoses to cool runners and walkers as they pass.

Bluesfest: the numbers still don't add up

Bluesfest: The numbers still don’t add up

On Friday, OC announced a five-year deal with Bluesfest to charge $100,000 in return for providing free transit to ticket-holders, sponsorship recognition, the ability to leverage a further charge for line items such as supervisory staff, and revenue-sharing in any future transit sponsor deal.

Though glad the debate is behind us, and the larger public interest has been served by focusing on transit to get to the venue, I’m left wondering whether we've blown a hole in our transit event policy just a few weeks after it was published. If so, it's time to re-write it.
