Wellington "dooring zone" results

For a couple of years now, the corridor between Holland and Parkdale on Wellington West has been painted with experimental markings. Those are intended to reduce the number of "doorings" we've had through that stretch. "Doorings" is how cyclists refer to those events when a car door suddenly opens into a bike's path - it can result in very serious injury. I can't assert that the trial has elminated them, though we've gone from five reported serious doorings in the summer of 2014 to none since the markings went in.

Carlington CHC survey

If you live in the area noted in the image (click to embiggen), the Carlington Community Health Centre is interested in your feedback about your community. For those living in Westboro Beach or the north end of Westboro and Hampton-Iona, I'd be very grateful if you could take a moment to fill out the survey here in English and ici en français. Thanks in advance!

Traffic Vision: Bayview/Scott intersection bike count and analysis

I've been captivated by the traffic patterns and bike volume around Bayview/Scott since the snow melted. One of the dynamics about which I'm concerned is the potential for a right-turning car from Scott to Bayview to whip through while a cyclist is attempting to cross mid-block to resume their ride. I wasn't watching for the full duration of this filming session, but am curious to see if the Internet catches a problem.

Happy Canada Day from Kitchissippi!

I had a great time Friday and Saturday visiting some of our urban campers at Tom Brown, a bunch of block parties, some of our seniors' buildings and other parties around the ward yesterday as residents and visitors celebrated Canada Day. It was a delightful 150th celebration! Enjoy a short video clip of some of their greetings below. Thanks to all the City staff who ensured a safe and enjoyable day for all, including Matt Perkins and some of our Parks staff (pictured) who supervised the urban camping grounds.
