Update from By-Law Services: Orphaned and Injured Wildlife

With spring just around the corner, By-Law and Regulatory Services (BLRS) is preparing for an increase in calls about injured and orphaned wildlife by sharing some tips with residents. 

BLRS would like to remind residents that not all small wild animals found alone are orphaned - it is very common for mothers to leave their babies in the nest or den while they forage for food. In the vast majority of cases, these mothers will return to care for their young. 


348-350 Winona Ave & 341-343 Tweedsmuir Ave - Zoning By-Law Amendment applications & Open House

As you may be aware, there are two similar applications circulating for 348-350 Winona Ave and 341-343 Tweedsmuir Ave. 

348-350 Winona - Zoning By-Law Amendment Application and Site Plan Control to facilitate the establishment of a fourth unit in basement of each existing triplexes already built. This would change the building to a low-rise apartment building. 


LRT Stage 2: Too many unknowns

LRT Stage Two: too many unknowns

Today, several city councillors, including myself and Councillors Chiarelli, Deans, McKenney, Menard and Meehan, announced that we would seek to defer until March 27 the report recommending the approval of phase 2 LRT. This contract is critical to Ottawa’s sustainability and it is important that we get it right.

Residents and elected officials need more time to understand what we are being asked to approve.


Municipal Parking Management Strategy Refresh Open House

The City is completing a review of its Municipal Parking Management Strategy (MPMS), including its mandate and rate setting guidelines.

The review will also look at opportunities to update the strategy’s funding model, which defines how paid parking program revenues are generated and where they’re spent.

As part of this process, an independent consultant will review potential governance models for the City’s paid parking program and aspects of parking management.


1950 Scott, 312 and 314 Clifton - Revised Application Submission

For those of you following the progress of the proposed development at 1950 Scott, 312 and 314 Clifton, please note that they have revised their submission in response to the initial comment period, the community open house (December 6, 2018), and Formal Review by the Urban Design Review Panel (UDRP).

Traffic Calming Review

With all the snow we are all dealing with, it is hard to believe that we are about three months away from the reinstallation of seasonal traffic calming across Kitchissippi Ward. Here is a chart of all the installations that went in during the 2018 season.

It's Friday afternoon and a little over 48 hours after I had a heart attack on Wednesday, I'm back home and feeling well. I've seen all your messages on social media and the outpouring of support for Natalie and I has been overwhelming. I cannot properly or adequately express my gratitude to you. And, of course, I can never thank enough the work that was done by Dr. So and all the healthcare professionals at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Help us re-name the field house at Van Lang

The field house at 29 Van Lang Private has been a huge success, and it’s time to give it a permanent name!

Until March 1, I’d like to get your suggestions so that we can make a short list of names that we can put to a community vote.

Suggested names should reflect the area’s geography, natural environment, history or people. The only names that won’t be considered are those of living people. Names will need to work in French and English


1306 Welllington proposed as Ottawa's first cannabis store

The media this morning is breaking the story that Superette is proposing the City's first retail cannabis store at 1306 Wellington Street West - the old Terra20 store.

This morning, I've spoken with the landlord and Superette ownership about my expectations that the store will present a friendly face to the community. The ownership are keen to maintain a good relationship with myself and neighbours, and I am very confident that there will be a good dialog between us as we go down this path for the first time.
